In January 2015 the Board of the SS Robin Trust, led by Sir Robin Knowles CBE, resolved that the aim of the charity – the preservation of the historic ship and its potential for public learning and enjoyment – would now be best served by accepting a generous and public-spirited offer from a new team to take the helm of the charity for the next stage. This would be led by Lord Mawson OBE, a long-standing Patron of the charity.
The Board took this decision in recognition that the SS Robin’s future depends on integration with future major developments in the Royal Docks, now fast gathering pace. The new leadership team is closely connected with these developments and is determined to see the ship, and all the activities she will eventually support, established in the Royals as an icon of Docklands past and future.
Lord Mawson has paid tribute to the outgoing Board members - Sir Robin Knowles, Toby Brown, Peter Ellis, Peter Foggie, Graham Gollar, David Hatchard and Mark Whitehouse – for their role in helping the charity to secure the significant funding and support that has brought the project to its current stage of development. He hopes they will maintain close links with the project as friends with particular areas of expertise, available to help on request.
